Meet the MFC Capital Funding Team


Joe is responsible for managing the day to day business of MFC Capital Funding including new business and portfolio responsibilities. Prior to forming MFC Capital Funding, Joe was a senior executive with Fifth Third Bank. At Fifth Third Bank he held a variety of positions and most recently managed the Specialty Finance Groups. He also founded the Structured Finance Group at Fifth Third Bank in Chicago. He began his career at American National Bank after graduating from Georgetown University. He received his MBA from the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business. Joe is a member of the Board of Directors of MFC Capital Funding.

Joe is also a member of the Board of Directors of affiliated companies: Marquette Equipment Finance (Midvale, UT) and Marquette Consumer Finance (Plymouth, MN).

Joe is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of La Lumiere School (LaPorte, IN) and a three time Sponsor and member of the Board of Directors of LINK Unlimited (Chicago, IL). Joe is also a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO).

Chris is responsible for co-leading MFC Capital Funding’s marketing and new business efforts while also having portfolio management responsibilities. Prior to forming MFC Capital Funding, Chris was a senior executive with Fifth Third Bank. At Fifth Third Bank he managed a highly successful division of the Structured Finance Group. He began his career with Security Pacific National Bank and also worked for Harris Nesbitt’s Asset Based Group in Chicago. Chris is a graduate from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Chris is a member of the Board of Directors of MFC Capital Funding.

Chris is also a Vice Chair of the Board of Directors and a Member of the Executive Committee of Reading in Motion. (Chicago, IL)

Ed is responsible for co-leading MFC Capital Funding’s marketing and new business efforts while also having portfolio management responsibilities. Prior to forming MFC Capital Funding, Ed was a senior banker with Banc One Mezzanine Corporation (BOMC) for six years. Prior to BOMC he was with the Asset Based Lending Group of American National Bank. Ed is a graduate of the University of Illinois and received his MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Ed is also a member of the Advisory Board of Directors of the Tax Assistance Program (Chicago, IL) and is a member of Marquette Financial Companies’ Midwest Regional Giving Committee.

Thom is one of MFC Capital Funding’s senior deal professionals. He is responsible for all facets of the deal process including sourcing, closing and managing investment opportunities. Prior to joining MFC Capital Funding, he spent fifteen years at Harris Nesbitt (Harris Bank) in a variety of roles in the firms Asset Based Lending Group. Tom graduated from the College of the Holy Cross and received a Masters in Accountancy from DePaul University.

Andy is one of MFC Capital Funding’s senior deal professionals. He is responsible for all facets of the deal process including sourcing, closing and managing investment opportunities. Prior to joining joined MFC Capital Funding, he spent fourteen years at Bank of America Business Capital (formerly Fleet Capital) in a variety of roles. Andy also has prior work experience with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company. Andy graduated from NYU with an MBA from the Stern School of Business and has a BA from the Loyola University of Chicago. Andy is also a CPA.

Danny is one of MFC Capital Funding’s senior deal professionals. He is responsible for all facets of the deal process including sourcing, closing and managing investment opportunities. Prior to joining MFC Capital Funding, Danny was an investment professional in the Private Equity Group at the State of Wisconsin Investment Board making direct equity and fund investments. Danny also has prior work experience with Pfingsten Partners, L.L.C., Nationsbank and First Midwest Bank. Danny received his MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and has a BS from Tulane University

Kevin is responsible for all facets of the deal process including sourcing, closing and managing investment opportunities. Prior to joining MFC Capital Funding, he spent over six years with Harris Nesbitt (Harris Bank). At Harris Nesbitt, Kevin worked in the Loan Syndications Group, the Equity Sponsor Group (leveraged, sponsor-backed transactions) and the Asset Based Lending Group. Kevin holds an undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Kevin is also active with Marist High School (Chicago, IL), the Pohlad Family of Companies New Orleans Volunteer Project and the Tax Assistance Program (Chicago, IL).

Laura is responsible for all facets of the deal process including sourcing, closing and managing investment opportunities. Prior to joining MFC Capital Funding, she spent over five years with JPMorgan Securities (previously Banc One Capital Markets). At JPMorgan, Laura spent over three years in the Syndicated and Leveraged Finance group (with a focus on the structuring and syndication of asset-based transactions) and two years with the Asset Based Lending group. Laura holds an undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Laura is also a volunteer for the Tax Assistance Program (Chicago, IL).

Jason is responsible for all facets of the deal process including sourcing, closing and managing investment opportunities. Prior to joining MFC Capital Funding, he worked as a Senior Analyst in the Middle Market Investment Banking Group at Dresner Investments and prior to that as a Middle Market Officer with JP Morgan Chase. Jason earned a Bachelors of Science degree in business, Cum Laude, from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.

Jim is responsible for all facets of the deal process including sourcing, closing and managing investment opportunities. Prior to joining MFC Capital Funding, Jim spent over six years with Genworth Financial (formerly General Electric Company - GE Financial). At GE, Jim held various finance roles, the most recent being Vice President, Manager Finance with Genworth Financial Securities. He also has prior work experience with Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi and Fifth Third Bank (formerly Old Kent Bank). Jim holds a BS in Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg School of Management.

Elliot Drabs joined MFC Capital Funding in July 2007 as an Associate. He will work in support of MFC’s investment professionals.
Prior to joining MFC, Elliot worked as an IT Analyst with Meridian Bank in Arizona. Elliot holds a Bachelors of Science degree in business from the University of Arizona. He recently completed his MBA with a concentration in Finance, Economics and Accounting from the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Elliot is also a member of the Board of Directors and the Finance Committee of Southwest Chicago PADS (Chicago, IL).

Ian Kay joined MFC Capital Funding in August of 2006 as an Analyst supporting our investment professionals. Prior to joining MFC, Ian graduated with an undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati, College of Business Administration with a focus in Finance/Accounting. Ian had internships with Grant Thornton, Ernst & Young and the private equity firm, The Walnut Group.

Ian actively participates in the Big Brother/Big Sister Program (Chicago, IL). He also recently participated in Pohlad Family of Companies New Orleans Volunteer Project.
